Alan Butcher has been practicing as a litigation lawyer in Ontario since 1991, spending 20 years with one of the largest law firms in Canada, the last 12 of which as a full partner. During that period Alan worked for 15 years in downtown Toronto, and then moved his practice to Hamilton where he spent the next 5 years. In January, 2011 Alan started his own law firm: Butcher Litigation. Alan has a broad range of experience in litigating disputes involving commercial parties. His litigation expertise includes receiverships, priority disputes, shareholder rights and remedies, professional liability, commercial fraud, cross-border disputes, commercial lease remedies, construction liens, economic torts, actions involving the duties of lenders and financial institutions, enforcement of all forms of security, recovery of personal and real property and the collection of judgments. Alan represents both businesses and individuals. His clients range through the entire business spectrum, from financial services to manufacturing, import and distribution, real estate investment and development, and including the representation of individuals in these contexts. He is an experienced advocate at all levels of the judicial system, including trials, applications and motions in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and on appeals before the Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He is also trained and experienced in mediation and alternate dispute resolution processes.
