Kara is one of the founding partners of Duncan Allen Law LLP, is the managing partner, and represents clients on a variety of family law related topics. Kara celebrates, respects, and supports diverse and non-traditional families, whether they are blended families, foster families, LGBTQ families, multi-generational families, or whatever “family” means to you. She has assisted with the growth of families through adoption and surrogacy as well as guided clients through the restructuring of their relationship or family. Kara has a straightforward approach to family law and strives to provide realistic advice and practical solutions to her clients. She recognizes that a family breakdown can be a very difficult time and approaches each case with empathy and compassion. She is a major advocate of out-of-court resolutions and has effectively resolved complex family files through negotiation, at mediation, and in collaboration with other professionals. Sometimes, matters will require court intervention and Kara has successfully advocated for clients in both the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia. Kara recognizes that not everyone that needs it can afford full legal representation in a family matter. As such, Kara has acted as duty counsel assisting people with lower incomes who are representing themselves in court on family matters, and also offers her clients flexible and cost-effective unbundled retainer options.
